At the end of March, the number of persons claiming pay subsidies, employed by the State or receiving start-up grants totalled 24,700, which is 1,800 more than the year before. Of those employed, 2% were in government jobs, 26% in local government jobs and 72% in the private sector. Since March last year, the number of placements has decreased by 5% in local government jobs and increased by 6% in government jobs and by 13% in the private sector. Of those employed, 51% were men. Placements for men increased by 1,200, and those for women by 700 from the previous year.
