Increase in long-term unemployment

At the end of March, the number of long-term unemployed who have been unemployed without interruption for more than a year amounted to 104,000, up 39,100 on the previous year. Of the long-term unemployed, 62,500 were men and 41,500 were women. The number of men increased by 23,600 (61%) from the previous year and the number of women by 15,500 (60%). The number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than two years numbered 39,700, which is 11,000 more than a year ago.
