Unemployed jobseekers by gender and age-group
Of the unemployed jobseekers, 171,200 (54 %) were men and 145,000 (46 %) were women, indicating an increase of 800 for men and 14,200 for women from the figures for May. Compared with June a year ago, unemployment decreased by 45,200 (-21%) among men and by 55,400 (-28 %) among women.
At the end of June, unemployed jobseekers under 25 years of age numbered 40,400, representing a decrease of 18,400 from June a year ago. Youth unemployment increased from May by 4,300. For those under 20, the number of unemployed was 9,500. Among those over 50, the number of unemployed was 111,600, representing a decrease of 23,000 on the year before. Among those over 55, the number of unemployed was 79,500, representing a decrease of 10,600 on the year before. Unemployment decreased the most among those under 25 (-31 %), those between 25 and 29 (-28 %) and those between 50 and 54 (-28 %). Among those over 64, unemployment increased by 8 % from the previous year. Compared with May, unemployment increased in all age groups; the most among those between 15 and 19 (38 %) and those between 25 and 29 (7 %).
