Increase in long-term unemployment

At the end of December, the number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than a year amounted to 107,300, up 15,400 on the previous year. Of the long-term unemployed, 64,100 were men and 43,100 were women. The number of men increased by 9,300 (17%) from the previous year and the number of women by 6,000 (16%). The number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than two years numbered 50,000, which is 13,700 more than a year ago.
