At the end of December, the number of persons claiming pay subsidies, employed by the central government or receiving start-up grants totalled 27,700, which is 5,100 more than the year before. Of those in placements, 2% were in central government jobs, 24% in local government jobs and 74% in the private sector. Since December last year, the number of placements had increased by 28% in local government and 22% in the private sector. Placements in central government decreased by 4%. Of those employed, 52% were men. Placements for men increased by 2,900, and those for women by 2,200 from the previous year.
