At the end of March, the number of persons claiming pay subsidies, employed by the State or receiving start-up grants totalled 29,500, which is 4,800 more than the year before. Of those in placements, 1% were in central government jobs, 26% in local government jobs and 73% in the private sector. Since March last year, the number of placements has increased by 21% in local government jobs, by 20% in the private sector and by 1% in central government jobs. Of those in placements, 52% were men. Placements for men increased by 2,600, and those for women by 2,200 from the previous year.
