At the end of October, the number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than a year amounted to 87,700, down 20,200 on the previous year. Of the long-term unemployed, 53,100 were men and 34,700 were women. The number of men decreased by 11,300 (-18%) from the previous year and the number of women by 8,900 (-20%). Of those unemployed in the long term, 51,700 had been unemployed without interruption for more than two years. This is 4,200 more than a year ago.
