At the end of December, the number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than a year amounted to 86,200, down 21,100 on the previous year. Of the long-term unemployed, 52,300 were men and 33,900 were women. The number of men decreased by 11,800 (-18%) from the previous year and the number of women by 9,300 (-21%). Of those unemployed in the long term, 50,800 had been unemployed without interruption for more than two years. This is 700 more than a year ago.
