The number of placements increased in local government and the private sector
At the end of January, the number of persons claiming pay subsidies, employed by the State or receiving start-up grants totalled 34,200, which is 5,700 more than the year before. Of those in placements, 1% were in central government jobs, 26% in local government jobs and 73% in the private sector. Since January last year, the number of placements had increased by 23% in local government jobs and by 19% in the private sector, but decreased by 1% in central government jobs. Of those in placements, 52% were men. Placements for men increased by 3,200, and those for women by 2,500 from the previous year.
