The number of placements increased in local government and the private sector
At the end of February, the number of persons claiming pay subsidies, employed by the State or receiving start-up grants totalled 34,400, which is 5,400 more than the year before. Of those in placements, 1% were in central government jobs, 26% in local government jobs and 73% in the private sector. Since February last year, the number of placements had increased by 20% in local government jobs and by 19% in the private sector, but decreased by 14% in central government jobs. Of those in placements, 52% were men. Placements for men increased by 3,100, and those for women by 2,300 from the previous year.
