At the end of August, the number of persons claiming pay subsidies, in placement in central government jobs, or receiving start-up grants totalled 36,100, which is 3,000 more than the year before. Of those employed, 1% were in central government jobs, 24% in local government jobs and 75% in the private sector. Since August last year, the number of placements had increased by 14% in the private sector, but decreased by 44% in central government jobs and by 0.5% in municipalities. Of those in placements, 54% were men. Placements for men increased by 1,900, and those for women by 1,100 from the previous year.
