Increase in the number of persons covered by services

At the end of August, the number of persons covered by services included in the activation rate amounted to 108,000, up 2,100 on the previous year. Compared with July, the number of persons covered by such services increased by 7,900. Of those covered by services, 63,700 were customers of local government pilots, which is 4,300 more than in August last year. The activation rate at the end of August was 30.2%, which is 0.5 percentage points lower than a year earlier. In all, 3.8% of the labour force were covered by these services.

Of those covered by services, the number of men was 52,300, up 1,200 on the previous year. The number of women covered by these services was 55,700, up 900 on the previous year.

Broad unemployment, or the total number of unemployed jobseekers and those covered by services, was 357,500 at the end of August. This is 12,500 more than a year earlier. The increase in broad unemployment was due to an increase in the number of unemployed jobseekers and those covered by services.
