At the end of July, the number of persons covered by services included in the activation rate amounted to 100,000, up 2,000 on the previous year. Compared with June, the number of persons covered by such services decreased by 4,900. Of those covered by services, 58,400 were customers of local government pilots, which is 3,900 more than in July last year. The activation rate at the end of July was 26.4%, which is 0.1 percentage points lower than a year earlier. In all, 3.5% of the labour force were covered by these services.
Of those covered by services, the number of men was 49,500, up 900 on the previous year. The number of women covered by these services was 50,500, up 1,200 on the previous year.
Broad unemployment, or the total number of unemployed jobseekers and those covered by services, was 378,800 at the end of July. This represents an increase of 8,500 from the previous year. The increase in broad unemployment was due to an increase in the number of unemployed jobseekers and those covered by services.
